The purpose of the Cardinal Club is to raise funds annually to support the many endeavors of E.D. White’s student-athletes. It is also the Cardinal Club’s goal to encourage parent involvement through the attendance of the monthly Cardinal Club meetings where coaches provide updates on the progress of the in-season sports.

Other than the teaching salaries and the coaching stipends that are paid from the School’s general fund, all costs of the Athletic Department are funded through internally generated funds (primarily ticket sales) plus the financial support of the Cardinal Club. Therefore, the Athletic Department must internally fund equipment purchases/replacement, cost of uniforms, travel costs, officiating costs, field and court construction and maintenance, capital improvements, etc.

In order to provide this financial support, the Cardinal Club raises money through an annual golf tournament (April), the Alumni softball tournament (May), the fishing rodeo (June), Super Saturday/Sports Day (September), the New Year’s Eve party, football program advertisement sales and signage sales on the football and baseball fields. Through these activities, the Cardinal Club has raised $338,000 over the last four years and expects to raise $66,000 during the current school year for a five-year total of $404,000.

The Cardinal Club has spent $291,000 over the past four years and is budgeted to spend approximately $89,000 during the current year for a five-year total of $380,000. Expenditures during this time period (including budgeted expenditures) include contributions to the Athletic Department general fund, contributions to a capital improvement reserve fund, stadium repairs, construction and maintenance of competition and practice fields, bonuses and continuing education for the coaches, equipment and uniform purchases for the basketball, baseball, volleyball, track and soccer teams, weight room equipment and the installation of air conditioning on the team bus.

The following is a summary of the expenditures for the five-year period consisting of actual expenditures for the 2002/2003 through 2005/2006 school years plus budgeted expenditures for the 2006/2007 school year:

*Primarily consists of contributions to the Athletic department of $70,100, Coaches’ bonuses and continuing education of $55,000, practice field construction of $12,300, A/C for team bus of $7,200, summer weight and conditioning program of $10,500, gym signs of $3,600, and speakers for parent meetings of $3,700.
