Spring Athletics Update Pt. 1

With our spring sports in the heat of playoff competition this week, we’re givingan update on each group’s performance so far this season. 


The Lady Cardinal Softball team finished their season last Tuesday. The team played in 5 tournaments this season with a total of 32 games and a record of 12-20. Their season ended on a high note by beating Vandebilt in their last regularseason game.  Key players this season include seniors Heidi Chauvin, pitcher, and Sydney Thibodaux, first and third base. They both had a huge impact on the team’s accomplishments both on and off the field. The young team is looking forward toa successful season next year.


The Cardinals have finished 9-1 in district 9-3A. Varsity is coming off of a week of wins against Berwick and St. James. They currently sit #8 in the state division II power rankings. They are heading into playoffs 16-11 against Archbishop Hannan. The regional series starts this Friday at home.

Boys’ Golf

The boys’ team finished strong in the regular season with leading medalist, Luke Poiencot, having the best overall individual score on the team. Five golfers competed in the District Championship, where the team came out 3rd at Ellendale Country Club with Luke Poiencot and Benjamin Pitre having the best individual scores. They will compete again this upcoming Wednesday at Grand Ridge Golf Club in Hahnville, La for the Regional Championship.

Girls’ Golf

Key players this year include Aubree Matherne, Emma Hebert and Jaci Daigle. The team is looking forward to expanding their knowledge of the sport and gaining experience to carry with them into next season. The team has played 2 matches and are competing in their regional competition tomorrow with a record of 0-2.


Tennis participates in the state tournament today and tomorrow and track’s regional meet is Wednesday. More athletics updates will follow these competitions.
