E. D. White Catholic High School President, Tim Robichaux, proudly announces the 2023 Edward Douglas White Catholic High School Alumnus of the Year, Fr. Joshua Rodrigue, ’94. Our school community will honor this esteemed graduate during the annual Alumnus of the Year Mass on Thursday, February 2nd.
Fr. Joshua Rodrigue grew up in the St. Charles Community south of Thibodaux and graduated from E. D. White Catholic High School in 1994. After completing minor seminary studies at St. Joseph Seminary in Covington in 1998, Fr. Josh spent five years in Rome at the Pontifical North American College and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux on August 10, 2002.
Following his Ordination to the Priesthood, Fr. Josh returned to Rome for his last year of studies to complete the licentiate degree in sacramental theology. After returning to the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux, Fr. Josh served in the diocese as Associate Pastor at Holy Cross Church in Morgan City, Pastor at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Bayou Black, and Rector of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral in Houma.
In 2017, Fr. Josh was granted permission to serve at the Pontifical North American College in Rome, where he has served as Director of Pastoral Formation and a Formation Advisor and then as Director of Spiritual Formation and as a Spiritual Director. He completed his assignment in Rome in 2022.
Since 2006, Fr. Rodrigue has been involved in seminary formation and over the years has taught as an Adjunct Professor of Theology at St. Joseph Seminary College (2006-2017), at Notre Dame Seminary (2008-2009), the Pontifical Gregorian University (2017-2018), and the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross (2018-2022).
On August 16, 2022, Father Rodrigue was installed as the 17th rector and seventh president of Notre Dame Seminary by Archbishop Gregory Aymond. Even though Fr. Josh is Rector of the seminary, he also teaches as a Professor of Sacramental Theology at Notre Dame Seminary.
Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans has a current enrollment of 135 seminarians, representing 24 dioceses and two religious orders, and is the second largest seminary in the United States.
