This special ceremony will honor their remarkable contributions to Cardinal Athletics and the lasting impact they have made on our school community. We welcome all alumni, family, friends, and supporters to join us as we celebrate their place in Cardinal history.
Henri Saunders was a two-time All-State pitcher who anchored the mound for the Cardinals, guiding the team to back-to-back state runner-up finishes in 1987 and 1988. A multi-sport standout, he also earned all-district and all-region honors as a place-kicker in football. An honor graduate and recipient of the Marines Distinguished Athlete Award, Saunders continued his baseball career at Tulane before transferring to LSU, where he contributed to the Tigers’ 1991 and 1993 National Championship teams.
Today, Saunders is the Managing Partner at Saunders & Chabert in Baton Rouge. Married to fellow Cardinal alumna Karen Weimer (’92), he is the proud father of three daughters. A retired girls’ soccer coach, he now enjoys boating, golf, pickleball, and travel—though the memories of those remarkable ’87 and ’88 seasons still hold a special place in his heart.
Donald “Dutz” Comeaux, a standout athlete from Thibodaux College and Nicholls State, was a rare four-sport letterman, excelling in football, baseball, track, and basketball. He earned three varsity letters in each sport—playing running back in football, left fielder in baseball, forward in basketball, and competing in track in the javelin, 440 relay, and 880 relay. On the diamond, Comeaux’s speed and versatility caught the attention of veteran Pittsburgh Pirates scout Bob Zuk, who signed him while he was playing both outfield and first base. Known as one of the fastest men ever put under contract, Comeaux attended spring training with the Pirates’ farm system in Jacksonville, Florida, before being assigned to the Hobbs, New Mexico team. At Thibodaux College, he was a key contributor to the Cardinals’ success across multiple sports, helping the basketball team capture the Pee Wee Boys’ Parish Rec Championship and earning a reputation as a “fast-moving sophomore” with exceptional athletic ability.
With an impressive 15-3 season record, this legendary team brought home the State Championship title, the first in school history. Now, they are proudly recognized as the first inductee into the Cardinal Champions, a new tradition honoring teams whose legacy continues to inspire.
