The A.E. Program

The goal of the Academic Enhancement Program is to offer services to students with learning differences. All students receiving modifications to their academic program must take part in the Academic Enhancement Program. The program offers modifications, skills classes with limited enrollment, and special monitoring of academic progress. A fee is assessed to those enrolled in this program.

Working together, we can assure that each child will have the possibility of academic success at E. D. White.

The Academic Enhancement Program is designed to meet the individual needs of the students. For that reason, the program may be different for each student. The AE program has several components, and each component has a number of different facets. The following skills classes are offered:
Skills English
Available for grades 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th
Skills Math
Available for grade 8th
Skills Reading
Available for grade 8th
Study Skills Resource
Available for grades 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th

The Skills Resource class focuses on study skills, organizational skills, and critical thinking skills.

Admission to the program begins by contacting the Academic Enhancement coordinator, Mrs. Fran Naquin. A recent professional evaluation is essential and is the parent’s responsibility. Evaluations from local school systems do not meet the needs of the program.

Please note that students who do not need to be in skills classes are still eligible for participation in the AE program and receive recommended modifications.

The Academic Enhancement Program requires teamwork. Students, teachers, parents, and Academic Enhancement personnel work together to ensure success. All members of the team have responsibilities that must be fulfilled in order for the program plan to be successful.

Testimonials

The AE program at EDW is the sole reason my children attend EDW. We live out of town and have two other schools available for attendance. I truly feel blessed to have the AE program. Teens today are faced with so many stressors in their life. The staff in the AE department is like their family! The extra attention and guidance these ladies show is unbelievable. Words cannot express the compassion the AE staff shows for their needs! As a parent, it is very comforting to know someone is always there for my children.

The Academic Enrichment Program at E. D. White is a Godsend for students who are in need of individual help to succeed. Mrs. Naquin and her staff are tireless in ensuring that each AE student achieves her/his fullest academic potential. There are other faith based schools in our area but EDW stands out with an exceptional commitment to every student by putting faith in practice. Simply put, they care. Our daughter, who is in her third year in the AE program, has blossomed both academically and spiritually at EDW and will be well prepared for college upon graduation. At EDW, challenges are approached with an open mind and an open heart.

The AE program at E. D. White was our lifeline. Frank had a place to go to get tests read and printed notes. The program is so vital to the students that use it! We are blessed to have the special teachers that work with our kids in this program.
